Murray River part 1 (Australia)

Australia - Travel - Back to index

By: Carlo Piccinelli

Murray River on Google Maps-
Murray rises in the Australian Alps, draining the western side of Australia's highest mountains and then meanders across Australia's inland plains, forming the border between the states of New South Wales and Victoria as it flows to the northwest into South Australia. It turns south at Morgan for its final 315 kilometres, reaching the ocean at Lake Alexandrina. This first part of the journey along the great Australian river (2500 km long) takes place in the northern side of Victoria State and a part of South Australia State. A very varied stretch consisting of wooded eucalyptus areas, desert territories and large areas planted with orchards and vineyards. A part of the river not often visited by tourists visiting the Australian territory but very suggestive. The visit to some wineries along the banks of the river, allows you to discover the excellent local wines both white and red. A journey through the recent oenological history of this beautiful country.
