Jordan - Curiosity - Back to index

By: Carlo Piccinelli

Ajloun on Google Maps.
Near the Ajloun Forest, in the village of Orjan, there is a little house where, with the help of the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN), from some years it has born and grown a handcraft activity became famous in the world: The Soap House of the women of Orjan. In the Soap House, local women have been taught how to make the soap, a order for them to generate a new source of income. The village of Orjan lies in one of the most beautiful areas in Jordan, rich in ancient olive trees, where is product the good honey and surrounded by forested hills with endemic plants of the place. In the Soap House, the women produce their soap bars, made with locally pressed olive oil and blended with essential oils and plant extracts which have numerous healing benefits. The Soap House also sells soap balls, soap cakes, gels, loofah soaps and other all-natural products. A good example of growth of local craft operated by the women of the village of Orjan in a country, as the Jordan, in evolving.
