Aiguille du Midi (France)

France - Travel - Back to index

Aiguille du Midi on Google Maps.
Built in the mid-twentieth century, the cable car that from Chamonix (1.035 m) climbs to Plan de l'Aiguille and then continues, with a second section up to the tip of the Aiguille du Midi (3.842 m), is one of the most spectacular present on the Mont Blanc massif (French part). At the arrival of the cable car, a veritable hive of rooms and tunnels, elevators and large panoramic terraces have been built above and inside the rock of the spire. Stairs, bridges suspended in the void and external passages connect the rooms that make up the hive of the Aiguille du Midi as a bar. restaurants, shops, screening rooms and the Mountaineering Museum. The exciting glass chamber suspended in the void in which, with a certain fear, tourists observe the spectacular panorama of the glacier that descends from the top of Mont Blanc down to the valley almost touching the town of Chamonix, completes this particular alpine structure visited by tourists from all over the world. An unforgettable experience a stone's throw from the summit of Mont Blanc (4.807 m).
