Where the Ötzi mummy was discovered on Google Maps.
On 19 September 1991, Erika and Helmut Simon, two German hikers descending to the Giogo of Tisa, saw a mummy locked in the ice. It was a sensational discovery for the archaeological world because the mummy is dating back to 5300 years before. Not only the mummy was a discovery scentifica unique in the world but also for his clothes, and gear that man came from the ice, carried with him and found near the body. The mummy was preserved for thousands of years thanks to the site where Ötzi, so it was called the mummy, died. Dead hit by a murderous arrow, the corpse it settled in a small rocky hollow at 3210 m, a place that preserved Ötzi by the glacier movements that formed in the subsequent millennia. Today Ötzi and his equipment, are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum in Bolzano and the place of discovery, is included in a interesting alpine tour that among rocks and glaciers, retraces the path that the Iceman, would route before to find death. An interesting trip for hikers who want to discover and learn about the history of the Iceman of Similaun.
