Biot on Google Maps.
Biot is a small medieval village on the hills above Antibes and is famous for the glass and ceramic artisans who, in their shops overlooking the main street of Rue Saint Sebastien and in the alleys of the village, exhibit their products to tourists arriving from all over the world. In the 11th century the inhabitants of Biot, thanks to the clayey soil the sand, manganese and cinerite (oven stone), began the production of jars and skins to contain oil and wine. Thanks to its proximity to the port of Antibes, the jars of Biot spread throughout the French coast. In the 18th century, pottery, ornamental stoneware and objects of goldsmith's art were added to the jars. In 1956 the first artisan glassworks was born and even today the characteristic bubble glass of Biot make this small medieval village a point of reference for artisans of blown glass and Provençal ceramics.
