Valle Stretta on Google Maps-
Once Italian and now French territory, Valle Stretta is a beautiful destination for mountain walkers. Several paths follow the course of the stream that created the valley climbing through thick forests of pines and firs to reach the pastures and the rocky peaks of the Alps on the border between Italy and France. Two refuges, Re Magi and Terzo Alpini, allow pleasant stops between typical mountain dishes such as polenta and sausage, polenta and cheese or trays of meats and cheeses produced by cattle and goats breeding in the area. A few kilometers from Bardonecchia (one of the destinations for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games), Valle Stretta valley is historically Italian, passed to France in 1947, still today is practically a culturally Italian valley given the presence of the two shelters (returned italian in 1970) and the massive attendance of Italian tourists from Turin and Susa Valley. A valley destination of excursions as easy as reaching the Green lake near the shelters or the paths that lead to the high valleys. The presence of some vertical rock walls also allows climbing but only for experts. A trip to the mountains for all, few kilometers from Modane and Turin.
