Where is the Barranca del Cobre
Article.
Sierra Madre, northern Mexico. In the state of Chihuahua, a train every day trudging through mountains, bridges and tunnels crossing the region of the Barranca del Cobre, one of the largest canyon systems in the world. It is in this scenario that in 1872, the dream of Albert Kowen of a railway linking the Pacific coast to the south-west (Texas) of the United States comes true. Started in 1873, it took 90 years and 100 million of dollars to build 653 km from Los Mochis (on the coast) to Chiuhuahua. Inaugurated in 1961, this railway is a great feat of engineering (87 tunnels, 37 bridges). The reportage is a journey on the train crossing the Barranca del Cobre inhabited by the Tarahumara Indians, known as "The people running".
